In 1990, Al Pacino, longtime champion of Heathcote Williams, funded and starred in the film of Heathcote Williams’ play The Local Stigmatic. Written when Williams was only 22, the play had its first theatre production in 1966. It was revived 50 years later at the old Red Lion Theatre, by the director Michael Toumey, who said, “It seems more relevant than ever in today’s culture of instant fame, YouTube, and the infatuation with celebrity.”
